2018 December Train Collectors Association
TCA Show Superintendent's Report
Don Cariss has been a valued member of the NRMRC since 1992. He has built a number of modules — Ampere Station, North East, T-TRAK). For many years he was our Treasurer. Don has encountered some health issues in the past few years that have seriously hampered his ability to live a normal life, let alone pursue model railroading. At train shows Don has sat in his walker and ran his trains, but this has now become very difficult. On Saturday afternoon Don announced that this day of operating at the TCA Show would be his last. His will attend future shows as he can in the function of observer and “talker”. Our thanks and best wishes go to Don on this next phase of both his life and model railroading as a member of NRMRC.
Twenty-two members participated at some point in the TCA Show at the Scott Building the weekend of December 1 – 2, 2018, six of them attended all three days. Thanks to Joel McCurry for helping Charles Eisener and myself load at the shed on Friday, and to Joe Johnston and Paul Ohegyi for helping Charles unload on Sunday.
The layout was set up and operating well before the show opened to the public on Saturday. The usual issues were encountered and solved. The layout ran extremely well throughout the show. The final layout diagram is attached.
Next year there will be two TCA shows, one in Mebane in September and the Scott Building the weekend of December 7 and 8, 2019. Whether or not we participate or want to participate in the Mebane show will depend on its timing vs. Danville. I have reserved our space for the TCA Show at the Scott Building. In December.
